CHANGE YOUR LIFE
One of the joys of living in Redding, California is the beautiful lakes close by. Whiskeytown Lake is about 1/4 mile from our driveway and Shasta Lake is only an hour away. The sad part is, I’ll bet I’ve only been on or in them a dozen times in the last 3 years. I think I’ve just gotten kinda lazy and when someone suggests the lake I begin to think about my hair, and I don’t want to have to wash it again, and what if it’s too cold, or too hot? And then there’s the wonderful vision of me in my bathing suit. Bizarre thoughts when you actually go there and swim. It’s so much fun.
My husband Mike has decided to change his life! He has given notice to all the people he has been meeting and strategizing with in the last 3 years, and decided he’s going to pursue relationship. Just meeting men for fun…to get to know them. It’s a weird and scary thought when you’re 58 years old and all you’ve known is to get together with men to discuss business. Part of his new regime is to have fun. He’s decided to swim in the lake one or two times a week and when I saw him getting ready this morning I thought “I think I want to go too”, and suddenly it came out of my mouth. I had to run and get ready before I changed my mind. A million thoughts swirled through as I wondered what in the world I was thinking. I had too much to do, it’s going to be cold, what if I get there and don’t like it. But I pushed on.
Smiling and pretending I was ready and excited to go, I marched resolutely to the dark green 20 year old Land crusier that has taken us on many adventures. We jumped in and off we went. Do I bring a purse? Should I bring my phone? (probably won’t be making any phone calls out there). As I contemplated the lake, I began to tell Mike stories about my summers growing up. My dad was a dairy farmer and could only get off 2 weeks every year. Our whole family would load up the Rambler, mom, dad, 4 girls and a picnic lunch and drive up to see grandpa and grandma who lived on a lake! What excitement and fun.
Every morning I would awake with a thrill. We’re at grandpa and grandma’s and I’d race to the window to see and smell the amazing lake right outside! Quickly we’d jump into our suits to join dad for the Polar Bear Club! He would challenge each of us to dive into the freezing lake and would turn this into such a fun adventure we couldn’t refuse. We knew we would receive the fountain of cheers from our dad when we not only dove in and recovered, but then to bravely stand shivering while dad would turn the hose on us as we squealed. We would giggle as he’d turn the hose on himself and sing loudly about how much fun he was having. Then we would all rush breathlessly into the house to again change and come down for grandma’s fabulous breakfast. Fresh picked raspberries or peaches, sweetened rice crispies (sugar cereal only at grandma’s) and delicious milk in a pretty pitcher as if the cow was just outside. Good memories!
Back to Whiskeytown Lake (what a name!). Mike and I climbed down the stairs and with a few squeals we were in! The lake was warm! Hallalujah! This was so much fun. We swam for half an hour and I decided to ask God while I was swimming, what do you want to tell me today? I felt like He said Love, love , love , love, everything is love. And I said wonderful! What do you want to teach me about love? “I Feel It in my fingers, I feel it in my toes” came the next song. Hey I love it! I want that. I want to love everyone like you love me.
When I got home I decided to look up the song and here it is! It was fun going back down memory lane and thinking about God singing this song to me, or me to Him! And then I can sing that to my husband Mike who I think is “Getting Back in the Saddle Again” with me!
LOVE IS ALL AROUND
By The Troggs
I feel it in my fingers
I feel it in my toes
Love is all around me
And so the feeling grows
It’s written on the wind
It’s everywhere I go,
So if you really love me
Come on and let it show
You know I love you, I always will
My mind’s made up by the
Way that I feel
There’s no beginning,
There’ll be no end
’cause on my love you can depend
I see your face before me
As I lay on my bed
I kinda get to thinking
Of all the things you said, oh yes I did
You gave your promise to me and I
Gave mine to you
I need someone beside me
In everything I do,
You know I love you, I always will,
My mind’s made up by the
Way that I feel
There’s no beginning,
There’ll be no end
’cause on my love you can depend
Got to keep it moving
Oh It’s written in the wind
Oh everywhere I go, yeah, oh well
So if you really love me, love me, love me
Come on and let it show
Come on and let it show
Come on and let it
Come on and let it (come and let it show, baby)
Come on, come on, come on let it show baby
Come on and let it show
Come on and let it show, baby
Come on and let it show
